London Taxis International (LTI), the manufacturer of the purpose-built taxis, based in Coventry, England, has reportedly approached Benz Thong Lor, a major dealer in Mercedes-Benz cars, to become its partner in assembling the cabs in Thailand.

The report quoted government spokesman Sita Divari as saying that LTI planned to start assembling the taxis in Thailand next year but had yet to finalise the investment costs.

The report adds that LTI’s senior executives are visiting Bangkok and the British ambassador has also been involved in discussions with government representatives over investment policies in Thailand.

Black cabs, which have been pressed into service as limousines at hotels and airports in Asia, are exported to 25 countries.
