Tesla delivered half a million vehicles in 2020 (compares with 367,500 deliveries in 2019). The company ramped up Model Y production in the US and Model 3 output at its new Shanghai factory (with Model Y production and deliveries commencing at Shanghai in early 2021).
Last year Tesla said it was on track to deliver half a million vehicles in 2020, but also warned that the goal had “become more difficult” because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Hitting the half million level will be seen as a big positive for the company, which is benefiting from higher sales of electric vehicles in major markets around the world.

Production capacity at the Freemont (Calif., US) facility that makes Model 3 and Model Y has recently been increased to 500,000 a year while the Shanghai factory’s manufacturing capacity is put at 250,000 pa.
Tesla says production at its Berlin factory is expected to start in 2021. Initial production at the Berlin plant will be occupied by the Model Y crossover but there is speculation it will also build a more compact car for European markets.
