Volkswagen Mexico will resume production of its Tiguan sports utility vehicle on Monday evening, the company said in a statement sent to Reuters, following gas shortages that hit parts of the country last week.

Meanwhile, Audi will resume normal production levels at its plant in Puebla on Monday, after "the supply of hydrocarbons to the industrial sector was guaranteed", the company added, according to the news agency.

VW last month launched PHEV variants of the Tiguan in Germany with an electric range of up to 50km (or 30 miles, WLTP cycle). Starting price is EUR42,413. The new PHEV combines an electric motor with the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine.
