The limited edition gets the 2.4-litre 220-horsepower turbocharged petrol engine introduced in the US for the 2003 model year, unique midnight blue and bright silver two-tone paint scheme and blue-tinted glass and will sell for an $US28,810 plus $590 destination charge.

Other additions include chrome body side mouldings and grille accents, special badging, 17-inch chrome-plated ‘Empire’ aluminium wheels, special midnight blue wheel centre caps with a bright “PT Cruiser” logo, unique two-tone light and dark slate leather seats, special floor mats, bright pedals and black front sill plates with bright inserts, five-speed Getrag manual transaxle, four-wheel disc brakes, ABS with traction control, power moonroof, tailgate-mounted rear spoiler, AM/FM/6-CD changer radio and a factory-installed Sirius satellite band digital radio system.

An automatic transaxle with AutoStick manual shifter is optional but Chrysler did not say if the new limited edition Cruiser will be exported. The company has built a number of limited edition PT Cruiser models since 2000 but only a few have been offered in overseas markets such as Europe and the UK.

Since launch in February 2000 to the end of July 2003, the Chrysler group has sold more than 570,000 PT Cruisers worldwide. Some versions were built in Austria for a short time but the majority have been assembled at the main plant in Mexico.
