“MIRS is the future for Pirelli because it is a revolutionary process for tyre production lines,” said Alfredo Nembro, the director for Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific for Pirelli Tyre (Europe) SA in remarks quoted in the newspaper.

He added: “Pirelli has invested about 500 million euros in the MIRS technology that allows unprecedented levels of flexibility and high quality in tyre production.”

MIRS technology is already employed in Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

According to the newspaper article, each MIRS module takes up only 330 square metres of space and can produce 125,000 tyres a year. The traditional factory requires 10,000 to 50,000 square meteres, depending on the manufacturer’s requirements. MIRS units can be relocated with relative ease, thus offering cost reduction options in logistics.

Mr Nembro also told the Bangkok Post: “It is possibile for Thailand to have this system. It is unique and revolutionary. It’s not only the process but the product that is different. What we have is one cycle instead of the traditional six or seven steps.

“In this one cycle, engineers can incorporate new aspects of technology such as the run-flat chip into the tyre.”
