Volkswagen Group and the German city of Hamburg are to extend their existing mobility cooperation with a on support e-mobility, innovative mobility services, intelligent transport networking and self driving vehicles.

In a second phase, WeShare will be launched in spring 2020, following on from its successful debut in Berlin; the service will consist of an all-electric fleet of e-Golf and E-up2 with the ID.33 to follow.

VW group company MAN will deliver 20 electric buses to HVV (Hamburg Public Transport Association) by the end of next year while the heavy truck and bus maker, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA) and haulier Jakob Weets will jointly test fully autonomous trucks at the Altenwerder container terminal.

MOIA will increase its fleet from 200 vehicles to 500 and Hamburg has expanded infrastructure and now has over 1,000 public charging points.

The WeShare fleet will have over 1,000 EVs. As in Berlin, it will operate a free-floating system – no fixed collection points to offer maximum flexibility and availability.

MOIA's full-electric ridesharing service, like WeShare, will be part of the SwitchH platform of Hamburg's Hochbahn metro system. The app offers integrated on-demand mobility services.

The city and automaker said first stage had been successful and findings from between MAN and public transport operators Hamburg Hochbahn metro system and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) incorporated in development of the new all-electric MAN Lion City E bus, about to go into regular service.

A second life storage system will be connected to the charging network at the VHH depot to test the behaviour of used batteries after service in buses and in stationary use under real life conditions.
