Sino-German car-making joint venture FAW-Volkswagen Audi launched two new battery-powered SUV models last week, as it looks to strengthen the Audi brand's position in the world's largest electric vehicle market. 

The e-tron and the Q2 L e-tron are the first of the brand's electric SUVs to go on sale in China and will strengthen its bid to become the top premium electric vehicle provider in the country.

The e-tron is a medium-sized SUV with a range of 470km on a full charge. It can be 80% recharged in 40 minutes and has Quattro all wheel drive, and accelerates 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds.

The e-tron is currently assembled in Audi's Brussels plant in Belgium but production in China is scheduled to begin in 2020 at a company factory in Changchun.

The smaller Q2 L e-tron, designed specifically for the China was launched at the Shanghai Motor show in April and is now assembled in Foshan in Guangdong province.
