Rather than the redesign we were expecting (it’s been around since 2011), Toyota will reveal a new high-performance Yaris model as part of a facelift for the full European range at the Geneva motor show (9 – 19 March), alongside a WRC version set to make its competition debut next week in the Monte Carlo Rally.

The new derivative is a three-door with an engine producing more than 210bhp.

“At the same time as the new high-performance model makes its debut, the entire Yaris line-up will benefit from design modifications, including new front and rear styling and a modernised interior. A raft of technical modifications is also being introduced to improve overall comfort and handling,” Toyota Europe said. The update is global as similar changes have been announced for the Japan domestic market Vitz

TME added the changes would strengthen the Yaris’ appeal, in particular the hybrid version. The petrol/electric model is unique in Europe’s small hatch/B-segment and currently accounts for more than 40% of sales. The cars are built in France.
