Magna International will build a new paint facility in Slovenia to help support new programmes going into its Graz, Austria contract vehicle assembly facility.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2017 and the company expects to create approximately 400 jobs, a spokesman told just-auto by email, confirming media reports.

“Magna has been awarded multiple new programmes and an extension of the Mercedes Benz G-Class. The new Slovenia paint facility will operate in conjunction with the Graz plant to help support the new programmes,” the spokesman added.

Magna said ahead of an investor conference this week it expected complete vehicle assembly sales this year of US$2.7-$3bn, rising to $6.6-$7.1bn in 2019.

According to just-auto’s PLDB database, Magna Steyr has contracts out to 2026 to build the BMW 5-series and a future Z4, Aston Martin’s Rapide S, a C-segment and the electric I-Pace SUVs for Jaguar Land Rover, current and future generations of Mercedes’ G-class and a future Toyota Supra.
