Jaguar Land Rover will recall 6,438 vehicles in China for defective seat belts, media reports said.

According to Press Trust of India/ET Auto, citing China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the recall affects imported vehicles – 1,554 2016-2017 Range Rover and 3,438 2016-2017 Range Rover Sport models, made between 12 July and 26 October 2016, plus 1,132 2017 Jaguar XEs made between 13 July  and 7 December 2016 and 314 Jaguar F-Type manufactured between 19 July and 16 December 2016.

The recall will start on 24 February.

The defective safety belts may not function when vehicles are involved in collisions, according to a statement from the Chinese regulators. It added the automaker would check the vehicles and replace defective parts free of charge.
