The news agency said that, between January and June, 842,780 Chinese-made cars were sold, up 82% on the same period last year, while sales of all domestically made vehicles surpassed 2 million units, a year on year rise of 32%, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

In June alone, Dow Jones noted, sales of domestically made cars surged 61% on year to 156,564 units, a 7% increase from May.

Last year sales of domestically made passenger cars soared 50% to 1.1 million units, the news agency added.

Dow Jones said overall vehicle sales in June jumped 30% year on year to 349,779 units, 10% higher than in May.

While auto analysts were concerned the SARS outbreak affected the market in April and in May – when car sales fell on a month on month basis – June’s strong showing has assured them China’s car market is still booming, Dow Jones said.
