Valmet Automotive has concluded the previously announced deal to acquire ex-Semcon engineering operations in Germany. Approximately 800 engineers at six locations are now part of the contract assembly and consultancy's engineering services unit.

The company said it can now offer customers "a considerably augmented" service and improved presence in central Europe.

New engineering units in Germany will be headed by Horst Bardehle, newly named managing director and as an executive vice president of Valmet Automotive. Former Semcon Germany MD Udo Glenewinkel will "support the transfer of business until further notice".

Bardehle is experienced in premium car development, engineering and consulting.

Offices are close to important OEMs: in Munich (BMW), Ingolstadt (Audi), Bad Friedrichshall, Sindelfingen (Mercedes), Rüsselsheim (Opel) and Wolfsburg (VW).

Ownership of testing operations in Almeria, Spain was also transferred to Valmet Automotive which itself is based in Uusikaupunki, Finland.
