Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 15,406,670 vehicles, up 6.9% from like-2001’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 275,149 vehicles last week, up 17.6% from the 234,030 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2002 US vehicle output totals an estimated 11,304,574 units, up 9.0% from the 10,369,335 vehicles built in like-2001.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 58,259, a 2.0% decrease from the 59,453 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,445,949 units, up 3.8% compared to the 2,357,528 vehicles produced in like-2001.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.2%: Ford Motor Co., 29.0%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.8%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.1%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.1%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.9%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.5%; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 0.8%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.5%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.1%; and other manufacturers, 1.5%.
