Panasonic Corporation has held an opening ceremony for its new automotive lithium-ion battery factory in Dalian, China.
The factory is the battery specialist's first cell production site in China.

"Panasonic will further strengthen its global competitiveness in the automotive battery industry by the establishment of production sites in Japan, the US, and China," the company, whose Japanese ventures supply domestic automakers such as Toyota with hybrid vehicle batteries, said in a statement.
Panasonic added it had increased production at its Japanese sites and will start automotive cell production in the US in 2017.
The new factory in China is owned by Panasonic Automotive Energy Dalian, a joint venture established between Panasonic and Dalian Levear Electric in February 2016.
Panasonic will develop the new factory into a core manufacturing site in China, and further strengthen its automotive battery business, it said.
The supplier aims to book JPY2 trillion in sales for its overall automotive business, including infotainment systems and industrial devices, in the ending 31 March 2019, which will marks the company's 100th anniversary.
