Toyo Tyre and Rubber is to relocate its headquarters to Itami, Hyogo from Nishi-ku, Osaka later this month.

In May 2012, the functions of the Tokyo Headquarters were dissolved, integrated and consolidated into the Osaka Headquarters. In November 2013, the Corporate Technology Centre (Kawanishi, Hyogo) was opened as a base for basic research and development.

This headquarters relocation now brings the headquarters, tyre technology development, and R&D functions into an area in close proximity.

The company has restructured the former divisional headquarters structure and in January of this year launched a new managerial system with an organisation built around each function, eliminating the barriers between divisions.

Operations at the new headquarters will start on 29 May.

Earlier this year, Toyo Tire said it was planing to sell its diversified non-automotive businesses to focus exclusively on its mainstay tyre business, according to reports in Japan.

Operations up for sale included the industrial materials plant in Hyogo Prefecture and a urethane plane in Kanagawa Prefecture, which makes shock-absorbing materials for the construction industry.

Included in the disposal will be manufacturing operations for various products including rubber hosing and waterproofing materials. These generate around JPY30bn (US$263m) in annual revenue – equivalent to 10% of group sales.
