New vehicle sales in Indonesia rose by 5.7% to 89,588 in April, from 84,770 units a year earlier, according to data released by industry association Gaikindo.
The country's economy continued to benefit from low interest rates over the last year, which have helped underpin domestic consumption, and more recently from a recovery in commodity prices and exports.

Separately, the country's largest vehicle distributor Astra International said it sold 50,319 vehicles last month to claim a 56% share of the total market.
Of these, 33,440 units were Toyota models, 15,535 were Daihatsus and 1,335 Isuzus.
Total vehicle sales in the first four months of the year rose by 6% to 373,407 units from 352,072 units a year earlier. This follows a 4.7% sales rise to 1,062,729 units last year – up from 1,013,291 units in 2015 after a two-year decline.
Passenger vehicle sales were 4.1% lower at 212,904 units in the January-April 2017 period, while commercial vehicle sales rose by 22.1% to 160,143 units.
After a strong overall performance in the first-quarter, Gaikindo said it is cautiously optimistic on the full year outlook for the vehicle market – predicting a 4% sales rise to around 1.1m units in 2017.
