New vehicle sales in Taiwan fell by 5.5% to 37,889 in June from 40,103 units a year earlier, according to local reports citing company data. Imports accounted for 43.4% of the total last month.
The market in the first half of 2018 was still 2.3% higher at 222,194 units compared with 217,162 units in the same period of last year.

Hotai Motor, the local distributor of Toyota, Lexus and Hino vehicles, reported an 11% sales decline to 10,559 units in June, reflecting continued sluggish demand for passenger car models such as the Corolla, Vios and Yaris. Its cumulative six-month sales amounted to 62,179 units, for a 28% market share.
Mitsubishi distributor China Motor Corporation reported a 13.4% year on year sales decline to 4,216 units last month, resulting in six month sales of 25,164 units while Yulon Nissan's sales were down by 6.1% at 3,444 units.
Honda was the biggest gainer among the major brands last month, with sales rising by close to 50% year on year to 3,701 units thanks to buoyant demand for its SUVs.
Mercedes-Benz's sales were 2% lower at 2,530 units.
