Mercedes-Benz sales in the first seven months of 2018 rose 2.3% year on year to a record 1,356,350 vehicles.

July sales, however, were off 7.95% but worldwide sales of 167,518 was still Merc's second-best July "despite," the automaker said, "several factors that led to constraints in the availability of some models".

It claimed premium brand YTD leadership in Germany, France, Switzerland, Portugal, US, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Australia and Brazil.

Europe sales slipped a considerable 13.9% to 65,568 vehicles last month while YTD volume dipped 3.2% to 542,358.

Germany YTD volume was off 2.7% to 173,721 cars.

Asia-Pacific  demand last month saw sales rise 4.6% to 73,484 and 11.4% to 566,842 YTD. China sales rose 8.3% in July to 52,616 and 15.1% YTD to 392,780.

NAFTA region volume fell 19% to 24,884 last month and by 3.6% to 216,133 YTD. In the US Lexus trumped both BMW and Mercedes last month as the Daimler brand's volume plunged 22.7% to 20,034. YTD sales fell 4.8% to 178,882 though Mercedes insisted it "maintained its market leadership in the premium segment".
