According to BRG Townsend, Canadian lawmakers yesterday announced that all new vehicles sold there will be required to meet more stringent emissions standards, especially in regards to nitrous oxides and carbon monoxide.

The move is in line with standards set by the Kyoto Protocol, of which Canada is now a member, the report said.
BRG Townsend says the new regulations will go into effect on January 1, 2004 and will bring Canada into line with US emissions standards for new cars.
The report said the law will not affect US cars sold in Canada but instead could affect certain other European cars that are still imported to Canada but are not available in the US because they do not meet emissions requirements there.
