Fiat chief executive Alessandro Barberis said on Thursday the ailing industrial group still believed in its restructuring plan as a spate of different ideas were floated by a flurry of Italian businessmen, Reuters reported.

“There is only one plan for Fiat and we believe in it. There is nothing new on that,” Barberis told reporters in Palermo, according to Reuters.
Reuters said that, asked if he had spoken to financier Roberto Colaninno, who is penning his own rescue plan for Fiat, Barberis said: “Absolutely not. We will wait for him to present his plan and then we’ll see”.
According to Reuters, Barberis also said on Thursday that there was no plan to spin off its loss-making car unit, a plan sources say is part of a restructuring Fiat agreed with creditor banks last year.
“There is no plan to spin Fiat Auto off from the Fiat parent company,” Barberis told Reuters. A spokesman for the Sicily region earlier quoted Barberis as saying the same thing, the news agency noted.
