According to Asia Pulse Ford India yesterday said supply of engines and transmissions from Hindustan Motors for its flagship Ikon sedan has started and the car would be rolled out with the ‘Made-In-India’ engine in January next year.

The engines were being produced at HM’s plant at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh as part of a sourcing agreement inked in January 2002 between the two car makers, Ford India spokesman Vinay Piparsania said.
“This would increase the localisation content of the car to over 90% from the current 75%,” he said.
Piparsania, however, declined to quantify the amount of engines and transmissions which would be sourced from HM and said it would depend on sales of the car.
He said the company was doing studies on launching a new vehicle in the domestic market but did not specify the segments it would enter in the near future, the report said.
