The Polish News Bulletin said that senior Fiat manager Gianni Coda announced yesterday that the company would be completing its planned new production line in the south-western Polish town of Tychy, with the first ‘Small’ cars rolling out of the plant in May of next year.

The total value of the investment, according to the publication Puls Biznesu, will be some 570 million euros.
“There is no chance whatsoever that we will move the production of the new cars outside of Poland,” Coda told a press conference. “My visit [to Poland] is directly related to the fuss surrounding the location of production of the new Fiat. Today we are making clear from which plant the cars will be leaving in May.”
By the end of 2003, he said, Tychy is planned to produce some 2003 Smalls – starting with the five-door model. A year later production will rise to 200,000, and in 2005, the plant will begin producing the three-door and four-wheel drive versions as well, with a production capacity of some 240,000 annually, the report said.
