CAW president Buzz Hargrove and DaimlerChrysler bargaining committee chairperson Ken Lewenza said in a statement that a “pattern settlement” must be reached to avoid a strike and there must also be “a resolve” to job security concerns at the Pillette Road plant which Chrysler reportedly wants closed.

Both CAW leaders are also concerned about the future of 1,000 workers laid off from the third shift in Brampton.

The CAW represents approximately 13,000 workers at DaimlerChrysler facilities in southern Ontario.
