Imitation car and motorcycle spare parts are still being widely sold in Malaysia and the public is advised to go to authorised dealers when buying such products, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Friday, according to the New Straits Times.

He said the Ministry and Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas), the makers of national motorcycles, conducted regular raids to reduce the number of imitation products in the market.
Muhyiddin blamed unethical traders for the problem. “Such practices by unethical traders are not only tarnishing the name of the company dealing with the original parts but also the consumers who are also on the losing end as they pay high prices for imitation parts.
“Consumers are not only cheated but they are also putting their lives at risk,” Muhyiddin said at the launch of the national scooter Modenas Karisma 125 at the Putra World Trade Centre.
Muhyiddin warned traders to stop using logos and names of the genuine agents. “Action can be taken against them similar to action against the culprits who produced pirated tapes and video compact discs.”
