USA: General Motors confirms $US300 million Willow Run investment to build new six-speed transmission
General Motors announced on Thursday that it would invest approximately $US300 million in its Willow Run, Michigan, plant to produce a new six-speed rear-wheel-drive automatic transmission.
General Motors announced on Thursday that it would invest approximately $US300 million in its Willow Run, Michigan, plant to produce a new six-speed rear-wheel-drive automatic transmission.
The project will preserve at least 577 jobs at the plant, which employs approximately 4,000 hourly and 400 salaried employees, GM said.
The investment includes factory renovation, new machinery, equipment and tooling to support new processes. Construction will begin immediately for completion in late 2005.
The transmission will be used in future GM cars and trucks beginning in 2006.
