Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 348,520 units, up from the 300,581 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 1,447,021 vehicles, up 1.4% from like-2002’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 261,147 vehicles last week, up 21.1% from the 215,614 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2003 US vehicle output totals an estimated 1,069,226 units, up 2.3% from the 1,045,002 vehicles built in like-2002.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 47,155, a 17.5% decrease from the 57,167 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 219,959 units, down 3.7% compared to the 228,388 vehicles produced in like-2002.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.1%; Ford Motor Co., 29.1%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 13.8%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.0%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.7%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.9%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.0%; Subaru Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.7%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.7%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.6%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0%; and other manufacturers, 1.4%.
