Tata Motors has announced the appointment, effective 15 February, of Guenter Butschek as its new CEO and MD. The firm’s previous CEO, Karl Slym, died suddenly in January 2014.

Butschek will lead all operations of Tata Motors in India and in international markets including South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia and South Africa. The former CEO of Airbus will not have jurisdiction over JLR, which continues to be run by Ralf Speth.

Prior to Airbus, Tata Motors’ new CEO worked for what is now Daimler AG. In his 25+ years there, he held positions in Production, Industrialisation and Procurement. His final role for Daimler was as president and CEO of Beijing Benz, the joint venture between Daimler AG and Beijing Automotive Industrial Holding.
