Following a 19.5% rise in car production in August 2001, United Kingdom car output rose by 26.2% in August 2002, reaching 112,803 units. From January to August this year total UK car output has risen 13.9% to 1,097,620 units.

Export volumes were up 47.2% last month, the highest August figure ever. Home market production rose by 4.5%.
Commercial vehicle production was up 11.4% in August 2002, reaching 13,322 units. The year to date total, at 122,983, was 3.4% down on last year.
The positive trend in export volumes continued last month, up by 29.4% on last year. The recent downward trend in home market output eased to 6.5%, compared to 17.2% in July.
