TMD Friction has unveiled a new partnership with Volkswagen Group, which will see subsidiary, Pagid technology on more than 7.5m pieces per year of rear brake pads, produced in Essen, Germany.

Overall TMD Friction brake pad production within the company will increase by around a third to accommodate the new sole supplier deal for vehicles built on the MQB platform.

TMD Friction says it has developed a new hybrid friction material for Volkswagen Group models, maintaining the new material is anti-corrosion, has pad sticking prevention, low levels of creep groan and noise-free action and delivers improved performance levels.

Cars which will feature the new Pagid rear brake pads include the Volkswagen Golf, Audi A3, Seat Leon and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq, plus others, including new small a-segment SUV vehicles.

“For everyone at TMD Friction and Pagid, this is a genuine success story,” said TMD Friction SBU OE passenger car president, Berthold Schlinge.

“We have an excellent product with ideal features and Europe’s biggest car manufacturer has chosen to partner with us. This is an amazing result, after three years of development and a EUR7m (US$7.8m) investment.
