The company also decided to extend working shifts from six to eight hours per day at the assembly lines producing the Niva.

All other assembly lines will continue working on six-hour shifts, the report said.

The company attributes these decisions to the “significant increase in demand for the Niva.”

This high demand is also related to the fact that the company reduced production of old Niva models at the company’s main assembly line after launching production of the Chevrolet-Niva.

The Chevrolet-Niva is produced by GM-AvtoVAZ, a joint venture of AvtoVAZ and U.S. automotive giant General Motors. GM-AvtoVAZ uses AvtoVAZ’ production facilities.

The two companies have a 41.5% stake each in GM-AvtoVAZ, while the remaining 17% stake is held by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
