Following Mitsubishi Motors announcement in Japan of their recall campaign for 692,000 cars and trucks worldwide, Mitsubishi Motors in the UK has announced its plans to deal with any vehicles which might be effected in the UK. Initially less than 2,000 vehicles are involved in the UK out of the 200,000 total vehicles to be effected throughout Europe.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK have already sent letters to 264 owners of 2.4 GDI Galant and to 1,657 owners of 2.4 GDI Space Wagon models effected by a possible brake booster fault. No UK vehicles are known to be affected by this fault which can reduce braking efficiency but does not result in total braking failure. The potential problem is with a brake booster vacuum hose nipple which may become blocked. This may in the worst case scenario cause reduced power assisted braking efficiency after operating the brake pedal several times in a short period.

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK are also applying to the DVLA for details of owners of previous model year Galants, ie 1994 and 1995 models. It is anticipated that under 2,000 of these vehicles are effected in the UK, but owners will again be advised to take the vehicle to dealers to check the fuel tank for fuel leakage in the upper part of the tank. No faults to date have been found in the UK.

Mitsubishi Motors have also applied to the DVLA for details of owners of Lancer Evolution IV and V models. The ECU controlling the Active Yawl Control needs to have the data programming checked. Again, this is non critical. None of these vehicles were officially imported into the UK by Mitsubishi Motors. Even though they have arrived by the grey route Mitsubishi Motors in the UK are incorporating them into the free recall programme providing they can find details of current owners.

Other vehicles involved in Mitsubishi Motors worldwide recall campaign are Japanese domestic specifications; the Space Gear, Minicars, Diamante, Eclipse and Pajero, none of which have been officially imported to the UK.
