No injuries or accidents have been attributed to the defects, Transport Ministry spokesman Masafumi Morita told the news agency.

Bloomberg News said Nissan is recalling 31,702 Elgrand wagons because of a gearbox problem that could make accelerating difficult. Of those, 126 vehicles were exported to Brunei and Hong Kong and the rest were sold in Japan.

Honda is recalling 8,466 Accord passenger cars and 4,571 Accord wagons for faulty headlight covers, a defect that could allow water to enter electrical circuits, the report said.

According to Bloomberg News, the Honda vehicles involved, produced in Japan between September and November last year, were all sold on the domestic market.
