The model is powered by a recently revised, 163bhp version of the turbo-charged, 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine. In six-speed manual form it can accelerate to 62mph (100km/h) from rest in 9.9 seconds, and reach a maximum speed of 140mph yet returns over 39mpg (EC combined cycle) and emits an impressively low 194g/km of CO2 (compared with 235g/km for the petrol 2.4 V6).

Multitronic continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is available as an option, reducing maximum speed to 135mph.

The original UK allocation of new A4 convertibles for 2002 was sold out long before the car’s July 1st on sale date but Audi UK has now secured extra right-hand-drive production capacity for this year.
