“This underscores our confidence in the US as an established market and a strong driver of innovation,” said Bosch Americas board member, Werner Struth.

The company also announced plans to expand its oldest American plant, the manufacturing facility in Charleston, South Carolina, as well as occupational training and professional development activities.

The 1,700 employees there manufacture original equipment for vehicles, including components for the ABS and ESP automotive safety systems.

Bosch has recently intensified its development activities in the US, for example expanding its engineering centre in Pittsburgh and consolidating local activities at a new, central location, while the supplier has also enlarged its Plymouth, Michigan plant, where developers are working on technologies for future mobility such as automotive electronics, driver assistance and safety systems.

During the past five years the company has invested a total of US1.5bn in the US. “The US market is a highly promising one, moreover, US companies are among the most innovative in the world,” added Struth.

“For this reason we will continue our high level of acquisition activity in the US.”
