Hitachi Automotive Systems says its lithium-ion battery module is being used in the new Suzuki Solio and Solio Bandit hybrid specification cars launched last month.

The module comprises a 100 volt lithium-ion battery power pack and an inverter. The lithium-ion battery module is manufactured by Hitachi Group company, Hitachi Vehicle Energy.

The module comprises a battery cell and a voltage detection board for the cell, housed in a single case.

By using a resin case, the weight of the module has been reduced by 35% compared to the company's previous battery modules, with 37% less height.

In 1999 Hitachi Automotive Systems launched its automotive lithium-ion battery business and since then has delivered more than 10m battery cells for a range of hybrid vehicles which includes buses and trucks as well as passenger cars (as end September, 2016).

Data from just-auto's QUBE service notes Hitachi Automotive Systems, together with its subsidiaries, develops, manufactures, sells and services automotive and transportation related components, industrial machines and systems in Japan.
