Valmet Automotive has completed construction work of a new body shop dedicated for Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV manufacturing at the Uusikaupunki plant in Finland.
The body shop with a total of 316 robots is the largest in Finland, with the GLC facility increasing the number of robots at the Uusikaupunki plant to 600.
Valmet Automotive logistics are responsible for subcontractor contacts and manufacturing personnel have been trained for the new product for several months.
The supplier has also started the largest recruitment campaign in its history for Mercedes-Benz GLC production: the Uusikaupunki plant personnel will be increased by more than 1,000 new workers within the next nine months.
“The project linked to the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV is the most challenging in the history of Valmet Automotive both in its extent and technological implementation,” said Daimler SVP projects, Valmet Automotive, Jyrki Nurmi.
“Our co-operation with Daimler has been excellent and the project has proceeded on schedule.”
