Daewoo Incheon Motor, an assembly contractor for GM Daewoo, will increase working hours from March because of rising demand for GM Daewoo vehicles, a spokesman at GM Daewoo said Wednesday.

From March, Daewoo Incheon, which manufactures Kalos and Magnus cars for GM Daewoo, reportedly plans to lengthen weekday shifts from eight to ten hours, and implement an eight-hour working day every Saturday instead of every other Saturday.
Daewoo Incheon, formerly Daewoo Motor’s Bupyong plant, was excluded from the Daewoo Motor assets included in GM’s acquisition deal last October. The plant was deemed unattractive on productivity grounds.
However, GM agreed that it would buy Daewoo Incheon within six years of the original buyout if productivity and labour relations improved at the plant. The manufacturing facility in Bupyong will continue to supply the new company with vehicles, engines, transmissions and components for at least six years. The agreements give the new company an option to acquire this plant any time within the next six years.
Daewoo Incheon will benefit from GM Daewoo plans to sell Daewoo models under the Chevrolet and Suzuki brands later this year.
