Daimler subsidiary Star Transmission will produce gearboxes for Mercedes-Benz’s E- and S-Class models at its plant in Sebes, Alba county, in central Romania, local reports said.
“There will be top Mercedes-Benz cars that will have gearboxes manufactured in Romania. There will be transmissions with the latest technology produced here, that we will find in the brand’s luxury cars,” Boris Billich, CEO Mercedes-Benz Romania, was quoted by local business daily Ziarul Financiar.

Earlier this month, Star Transmission inaugurated a new gearbox assembly unit for Mercedes-Benz in Romania, following a spend of EUR40m, website romania-insider.com said.
The new unit is located in central Romania, and has an area of 13,000 sq m. Construction too about 10 months and the unit employs 150 people.
In April 2013, Daimler announced plans to invest spend EUR300m expanding production capacity in the country.
Star Transmission was founded in 2001 and is an international supplier of components for the automotive industry.
