Toyota Motor is expected to open its first showroom in Myanmar, in the capital city Yangon, in March, according to local sources.

So far, the company has only established service facilities in the country to support the rapidly growing population of Toyota-branded used cars imported into the country from Japan.

Last year, around 90% of the 100,000-plus first-time registrations were used vehicles imported from Japan and most of these were Toyotas.

The country’s new vehicle market is expected to grow rapidly from here, as incomes rise and as vehicle finance becomes more widely available. Almost all global automotive brands now have sales outlets in the country and local assembly is set to increase sharply.

Toyota will sell a broad range of models in the country, including small and mid-sized passenger cars, the Hilux pickup truck and sport utility vehicles.
