McLaren Automotive pulled the covers off the 650S at a special event on the eve of the show.

The new supercar begins a long and steady process of expanding the company’s model line-up as more dealers are signed up worldwide. CEO Mike Flewitt told just-auto.com that he thinks the sales potential for the new 650S Coupe and Spider would be “roughly 1,400 cars, and a further 200 P1s [worldwide]” in 2014.

“I have 51 dealers and I’ll have 70 at year-end”, Flewitt added, noting that of European market sales expectations, about one third of a a forecast 300 vehicles would be sold in the UK, a further third in Germany, and the remainder in other regional markets.

Russia is not part of McLaren’s definition of the European region. When asked why no local dealer has been signed up, Flewitt says he prefers to be cautious for the moment, and that he is still looking for a convincing business case, and “a broader product range”.

Production of the 650S commenced in late February, with the first cars due to be delivered to owners from later in March. The US will be the largest global market, at least in 2014.

UK pricing for the McLaren 650S Coupe starts at GBP 195,250, with the 650S Spider starting at GBP 215,250. The 12-C, which the new car is based upon, continues in production as a lower priced model.
