Renault aims to sell an initial 150,000 vehicles per year in China after it completes a first phase of an investment programme in the country in 2016.
According to executive vice-president Jerome Stoll, the Dongfeng-Renault Automobile joint venture plans to have a production facility up and running by 2016, as well as a dealer network comprising some 150 outlets.
After a second investment phase, sales in China are expected to climb to 350,000 units per year, rising to as high as 750,000 units per year once a third investment phase is in place.
Last year, Renault is estimated to have sold around 34,000 vehicles in mainland China, mostly sourced from its South Korean subsidiary Renault-Samsung.
In 2016, Dongfeng-Renault will begin assembling crossover vehicles at a new plant in China’s Guangdong province, after an agreement was reached between the two partners last December.
