Continental expects to increase its global workforce by 7,000 to 185,000 by the end of this year, 50,000 more than the supplier had in 2009.
Last year, Conti had a workforce of 178,000 with 50,000 employed in Germany. Most jobs were added in China (1,800), Romania (1,500) and North America (1,500).

“In 2014 alone, we are expecting to increase sales by 5% to around EUR35bn (US$48bn),” said HR head Elke Strathmann.
“Alongside the expansion of production capacities, it is new markets and new technologies that are driving our growth – and this applies to the workforce as well.
“In the last few years, we have broadened our base both product wise and geographically. This has made talent management and cultural development all the more important and we are taking this into account.”
The planned acquisitions of North America-based Veyance Technologies from the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm, for about $1.91bn would add a further 9,000 jobs to the payroll, added Strathmann.
