A report in the Los Angeles Times says that DaimlerChrysler is planning to keep its Global Electric Motorcars unit even though it is said to be unprofitable. DC plans to keep selling battery-powered small cars, unlike Ford which recently decided to axe its Think electric-car sales division.

The LA Times report says that Global has annual US sales of about 5,000 cars, which resemble golf carts and have a top speed of 25 miles per hour.

Ford recently said it would drop the Think electric cars saying that demand was insufficient and that it would concentrate on hybrids and fuel cell vehicles instead.
