Mahindra & Mahindra is stopping production for up to three days during the rest of May due to a slump in demand.

Wholly-owned subsidiary Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers’ plant at Chakan would also be stopping production for up to three days during the remaining period of May 2014, the Economic Times of India reported, citing the automaker’s statement to a stock exchange.

“The management does not envisage any adverse impact on availability of vehicles in the market due to adequacy of vehicle stocks to serve the market requirements,” M&M said.

ETI said the company reported a 12% decline in total sales to 36,274 units in April. Domestic sales of 34,107 units fell 15% compared with 39,902 in April 2013.

Last January the company imposed no production days for three months to adjust output to market demand.

M&M has auto manufacturing units at Chakan (near Pune), Nashik and Haridwar.
