Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plans to set up an engine assembly plant in China, its first outside the UK.
The factory will be built on the same site as the company’s car factory, reports The Financial Times. JLR’s director of purchasing Ian Harnett said, “There is an opportunity to do that [an engine factory] within the existing footprint of the factory”.

The company plans to start the construction of the engine plant within two years, with the opening scheduled to take place after production begins at its engine factory in Wolverhampton, the UK.
Until the engine assembly factory starts functioning, the Chinese car factory will export built-up engines from the UK. Production at the car plant is scheduled to begin later in 2014.
Going forward, JLR plans to introduce a local brand for China, the FT report said.
