Maruti Suzuki India has commissioned a 1MW mono-crystalline photovoltaic solar power plant at its Manesar factory.

Built at a cost of INR103m, the plant will help the company offset about 1,200 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

Plants chief Rajiv Gandhi said: “The initiative is in line with the company’s philosophy of adopting environment friendly technologies that may have high upfront costs, but help bring down CO2 emissions.”

The plant has 4,000 mono-crystalline panels. Power generated is synchronised with the natural gas based captive power plant and complements electricity supply to the factory.
