The launch of the new Edge SUV is another step forward in the company’s transformation plan said Ford of Europe chief Stephen Odell – a plan that will see 25 new models and updates between 2013 and 2018.

“We are not talking about minor product activities either,” said Odell. “We have already launched a new array of commercial vehicles, the Tourneo, Mondeo and Focus.

“Next year we will have Galaxy, S-Max, Vignale, Mustang and Edge and we are very much on track with all the elements of our transformation plan.

“In terms of cost we will have reduced our installed capacity, down 18% in western Europe by the end of this year – excluding Russia – and we have been helped by great agreements with the unions in Germany.

“With the brand we will have 2,000 dealers across Europe who will be performing in the manner that we, and the customers, want. As for the third element, financials, we are on track to be profitable by the end of 2015 in Europe.”
