The Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) JV with Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus (MFTBC) – called Daimler Trucks Asia (DTA) – has started shipping DICV-made Fuso trucks to Indonesia, a key strategic market in Asia.

With the new range of trucks, the company aims to fuel additional momentum in a market where Fuso has established itself as the leading commercial vehicle brand, DTA said in a statement.

Fuso leads in Indonesia with a market share of 45.4% and, in the light-duty truck segment (5-8 tonnes GVW) served by the Colt Diesel, had market share of 53.1% in calendar year 2013. The company has sold over 280,000 units in Indonesia in the light-medium and heavy duty segments.

The new trucks are already sold in Kenya, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Brunei. Indonesian sales are through a local distributor – Krama Yudha Tiga Berlian Motors (KTB) i which MFTBC holds an 18% stake.

Daimler Trucks Asia said it was eyeing additional markets (but gave no further details) under its Asia Business Model launched in 2013.

This model combined the strengths of Japan-based Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus (MFTBC) and Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) under the ‘umbrella’ of Daimler Trucks Asia.
