Geely’s Volvo Cars has produced its last XC90 at its Torslanda factory in Sweden and the tooling for the now-jurassic vehicle, first seen at the Detroit show in 2002, is being shipped to China.

In total, 636,143 of the SUVs have been built and the vehicle was once named Sweden’s most valuable export product, with an annual export value of more than SEK40bn (US$5.9bn) in its peak years.

The 12-year-old model will make room at Torslanda for the next generation due to start production next January. The current version will continue in a new Geely plant in Daqing later in the year, under the name of XC Classic, and for China only.
