Jaguar is scaling back production of its ‘Baby Jag’ X-type, launched a little more than a year ago, to reduce a backlog of unsold cars, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The newspaper said Jaguar would halt X-type production for one week in October and also would reduce the number of shifts making the car to one from two for six weeks by the end of the year.
A company spokesman told the WSJ that the steps were taken due to concerns about a decline in Jaguar’s key markets and that, as a premium car maker, the company wanted to avoid a large inventory, which could hurt its image.
Anecdotal comments on just-auto’s website have suggested that US Jaguar dealerships have experienced difficulties rectifying problem X-type items under warranty due to poor technical backup and slow parts supply.
